West Slope Water Temperature Data

Follow the steps below to select, display and export West Slope water temperature data. All data is archived and limited to the dates displayed in the Period of Record shown below in Step 1; no real-time data are available for these stations. For real-time data go to the Real-Time Water Temperature Data page.

Some of the stations on the Colorado River are maintained by the Grand County Water Information Network (GCWIN). In the the station list below, these stations have an alternate GCWIN station ID. These data are also available on the GCWIN website.
  Water Temperature Standards
Water temperature in Colorado streams is assessed for both chronic and acute exposure in an attempt to protect aquatic life against adverse effects of elevated water temperature. The chronic temperature standard is assessed against a seven-day running average of the data, while the acute temperature standard is assessed against the daily maximum of the two-hour running average. The applicable numeric chronic and acute standards are site-specific depending on the stream classification assigned at the monitoring location.

More information on temperature standards assessment is available in the Section 303(d) Listing Methodology and Temperature Criteria Methodology - Policy Statement 06-1. Applicable standards for the Upper Colorado River basin can be found in Table Values of Regulation 33.
